Character: Jameson "James" Duffy
Series/Canon: Original Character
World Description:
There is absolutely nothing special about James' world, beyond that his girlfriend can see, talk to and just generally interact with ghosts. And honestly, he'd like it if they left her alone, she's kind of busy and he'd rather she spent her free time with him, thanks so much dead guys.
History:
Growing up? James was an asshole. A snarky, shitty, entitled rich kid asshole. And a bit of a bully, at least until half-way through high school. He even bullied the girl that would eventually become his girlfriend. But, like a lot of kids, the being a jerkish bully thing kind of shook itself out once he hit high school and well. High school, basically, happened. As it does. He started seeing things differently, people differently and got seriously into romantic comedies.
Shut up. It's a thing!
Growing up, his family basically consisted of his parents, who apparently had no idea there was a type of whiskey called Jameson when they named him and expected him to work for the money he lived off of even though they were rich enough for him to afford not to. It took going through college and all that that entailed to shake him of that particular mindset, but sometimes he still gets kind of annoyed about it. He's human, what can he say?
Something else that helped? His girlfriend, Nel, basically not taking any of his dumb crap.
Growing up, he was closer to his oma, Sofia, than he was his parents. It's no surprise that she was pretty much the first one in his life that could get him to act like a normal person. And maybe that's fine? Who knows.
Romance-wise? He tends to take cues from his romantic comedies. It would not be out of character for him to appear outside of his girlfriend's window after a huge fight with a boombox and several days worth of flowers, let's just say that right away.
He also once punched a bee that was trying to sting her. Don't ask. Just...don't ask.
Why do you think your character would work in this setting?
Essentially? He's come to New Dodge, accepted Eli's offer even, because Nel did. And he bitched the entire two week shuttle ride her. It was probably an experience for everyone onboard. He's basically there to make sure his girlfriend both 1) stays alive and 2) this isn't her amazingly elaborate way of ditching him.
How do you plan to expand their CR?
He knows how to make friends, he's not an idiot. Of course, he tends to make friends with people Nels hates, but he knows how! He'll talk to people, he'll work at the library, he'll pal around. And he'll probably glare at people who look at his girl sideways.
What will your character do for work?
He's a librarian. He'll work at the library!
